Sticky Tofu


2 blocks extra firm tofu

2 tbsp oil

3 tbsp cornstarch

1 Tbsp soy sauce

½ tsp Hinds black pepper

Sticky Sauce:

1/4 cup honey

1 large clove garlic

Thumb of fresh ginger

½ tbsp chilli flakes

2 tsp Rhodes Quality tomato paste

80ml soy sauce

2 tsp cornflour + 1 tsp water mixed


Dry the tofu with clean cloth - the drier the better!

Cut the tofu into cubes and add them to a bowl. Drizzle over the oil and toss to coat. Add the cornstarch, soy sauce and black pepper to the bowl and and stir (or toss) to combine and coat. Fry until browned turning halfway through to ensure an even cook.

Fry garlic, ginger and chilli flakes and stir for 3-4 minutes until aromatic.
Add the tomato paste and honey to the pan and stir to combine. Add the soy sauce to the pan and stir for 1 minute | Add the cornflour slurry to the pan and stir to combine | Let the sauce simmer until it reaches your desired consistency.

Add the tofu cubes to the sauce and fold to combine. Garnish with spring onions, sesame seeds and serve immediately.
